WHAT IS THE MEETUP.COM WEBSITE?

We use this as part of the sign-up process and to keep all our members, events, and sails organized.

WHY DO I NEED TO SIGN UP ON THE MEETUP.COM WEBPAGE?
It’s where you will be able to sign up for events and sails, communicate with us, and see everything that is going on with our club.

HOW DO I RSVP TO EVENTS & TO SAIL?
You must sign up on our Meetup.com webpage, after which you will be asked to fill out a Temporary Guest Membership Application so that you can RSVP for our events and to go sailing with us.

WHAT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DOES THE LAKE MICHIGAN SAILING CLUB PROMOTE?
The Lake Michigan Sailing Club observes a variety of safety policies to help protect sailing crew and boat owners. We require that all crew wear U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices (i.e., life vests.) Use of alcohol or other intoxicants is not allowed until sailing is over for the day. All boats have all safety gear required by the U.S. Coast Guard for recreational boats and all boats in our fleet undergo a U.S. Coast Guard Vessel Safety Check, conducted by a certified Vessel Safety Examiner.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I SAIL AS A TEMPORARY GUEST MEMBER?
You can come out as our temporary guest up to three (3) times within the calendar year that you are approved.

WHAT IS A REGULAR MEMBERSHIP?
A “Regular” membership is for one individual. Regular members pay dues via a “Pay Annual Dues – Regular Membership” club event on Meetup.com. The dues for a regular membership is $125 per year.

WHAT IF I WANT MY FAMILY TO SAIL WITH ME?
A “Family” membership is open to persons who are members of a domestic unit living at the same address. Families pay dues via a “Pay Annual Dues – Family Membership” club event on Meetup.com. The dues for a family membership is $175 per year.

HOW DO I JOIN THE CLUB IF I AM A BOAT OWNER?
Boat owners, follow the steps to joining, and you will be contacted to go over separate procedures for completing the sign-up process.

WHAT DO I DO IF I’M INVITED TO JOIN AS A PAID MEMBER & HOW DO I PAY MEMBERSHIP DUES & FEES?
If you are invited to join as a paid member you must PAY DUES to continue to sail with us.
Regular members pay dues via a “Pay Annual Dues – Regular Membership” club event on Meetup.com.
Families pay dues via a “Pay Annual Dues – Family Membership” club event on Meetup.com.

CAN I INVITE A GUEST TO GO SAILING WITH ME?
Only paid members are allowed to invite a guest to go out sailing.

HOW CAN I BRING A GUEST WITH ME?
If you have someone who would like to go out sailing with you, please have them “Request to join” on our Meetup.com webpage and follow the instructions to join.

WHAT IF THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE THAT RSVP FOR A SAIL?
Paid members are given the first chance to make an RSVP for a sail, with any openings left to be filled by temporary members.

WHAT DO I BRING TO A SAIL?

Do I have to wear a PFD?
Yes,  all captains and crew memebers must wear PFD before leaving the dock.
